Couple Uncovers Hidden House Feature During Renovation
Home renovations uncover lots of things—some good, some bad. As a house flipper you know this firsthand. So when a Wisconsin couple unearthed a hot tub hidden beneath their home office they knew there was a chance they could end up in hot water—in a good way.
The presence of the hot tub did not come as a surprise to homeowners Mark and Jenny Ronsman. The home’s previous owner had given them a heads-up.
“The elderly woman who sold us the house said they got older and stopped using it,” Mark said, according to Yahoo News. “So they converted it to an office.” The hot tub sat shuttered beneath the office floor.
After the Ronsmans moved in they didn’t immediately excavate the hot tub. It wasn’t until three-and-a- half years later, after their state had been put under quarantine due to Coronavirus, that the two had time to tackle the project.
Mark was happy with what they uncovered. “I was pleased to find the tile in the hot tub looks beautiful!” He wrote on Facebook. “And it’s super deep! I’m just now finally getting to fixing it up to run again. Hopefully soon while this lockdown is going on.”
Based on photos Mark shared on Facebook the hot tub’s cobalt blue and navy mosaic tile appeared to be in great condition, although house flippers might opt to update the tile for greater mass appeal, and to increase the resale value of the house.
The 39-year-old father and systems engineer appreciated how well the previous owners had preserved the hot tub.
He told In The Know, “I was truly shocked and overjoyed that something so beautiful was IN my house! I was also truly grateful to discover the previous owners took such great care that what they did could be reversed!”
The Ronsmans plan to have their hot tub functional by the end of April, or mid-May.
