The key to adding color, though, rather than going with neutrals, is to use it sparingly… which is outlined in the 60-30-10 color rule
The 60-30-10 Color Rule
The 60-30-10 color rule says that 60 percent is the main color of your room (like most of your walls, minus one accent wall). Then, 30 percent is a secondary color. (This is where your accent wall comes in.) Finally, 10 percent is the accent color – and that’s up to the people who actually live in the house.
If you’re going to paint an accent wall, do it in a room that can take it – one that your buyers won’t really have much furniture for, like a bathroom. That way, you still appeal to the widest audience (and you won’t have an orange wall in a house where the buyers have a red couch).
